The 2013 Hà Kus Teyea Celebration will take place from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, July 28 in Teslin, Yukon Canada at the TTC Heritage Centre, with three full days of programming. Leading the festivities will be a traditional lake crossing and arrival in a Tlingit canoe, followed by a greeting ceremony and the lighting of the Celebration Fire. A welcoming and grand entrance parade with pageantry, flags and Tlingit regalia will follow in the afternoon. Scheduled daily are public art workshops, cultural demonstrations, storytelling, traditional canoe events, First Nations performers, an artist’s market, a kids’ zone and a variety of food vendors. Each evening will begin with a public feast, followed by performances of traditional drumming and dancing. On Saturday a hand games tournament (stick gambling) will provide hours of excitement. All Yukon First Nations, as well as B.C. and Alaska First Nations communities are invited to participate. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
