Artist Market & Workshops Coordinator Report
The Artist Market and Workshops for the Ha Kus Teyea
Celebration will take place at the Teslin Hockey
Arena. I would like to thank the Village of Teslin for
donating the facility to this event.
The artist market and workshops will begin with the
Chilkat/Ravenstail weaving on July 20 to July 30, 2009.
The Cedar Bark weaving will begin on July 24 – July
30th, and the Artist Market will open on July 22, 2009 – July 28, 2009. [Read Full News Release]
Coordinator's Update
As I write this message, it’s 60 days till our event! I’m sitting at The Heritage Centre and the lake is cracking and it’s very warm outside. Reality sinks in for all the work ahead….
I was re-assigned to coordinate our Inland Tlingit gathering in July 22-28, 2009. Just over a year ago, TTC General Council gave direction for TTC to host a celebration of our culture and invite the coastal peoples. In the fall we started the Steering committee meetings; we have six community committee volunteers; Isabelle Dewhurst, Elaine Shorty, Duane Gastant’ Aucoin, Elders and Clan Leaders: Sam Johnston and Jimmy Johnston and former Chief, Eric Morris. TTC Elders embrace Celebration
The TTC Committee organizing the first-ever Ha Kus Teyea Celebration set for July 2009 has the full support of the TTC Elder’s Council. Elders, who gathered for a council meeting February 4, 2009, fully embraced the upcoming celebration and offered many insights into making the historical Celebration a success.
